Hello and welcome to my website. I am Dr. Debbie Hutchinson, Psy.D., LMFT, CCATP, a psychotherapist who provides therapeutic services to assist adults and couples in reaching their goals. I hold a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist. My training in both Clinical Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy has allowed me to provide enhanced services to individuals and couples.
In working with clients, I take a Cognitive-Behavioral Approach to therapy which helps individuals understand how their thoughts lead to certain feelings which in turn lead to certain behaviors. It is an active approach that helps individuals develop insight and take the necessary steps to create positive, lasting change. Cognitive-Behavioral therapy tends to be short-term with the goal of helping individuals get back on their feet and active in life again. There are at times situations that require longer term therapy and that would be accommodated if needed.
My special interests include: Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Trauma, and working with couples. My approach has been described as warm and caring but tough. I believe in helping people achieve success in creating the life they want to live. I have helped many people overcome their emotional challenges. I also enjoy working with family members to teach them skills that foster healthy relationships. Helping individuals with personal development that will enable them to conquer obstacles and achieve their hopes and dreams is my passion.
In addition to doing therapy, I am an active professional speaker. My speaking experiences include: Universities and Colleges, conferences, professional organizations, churches, and many other engagements.
Change requires insight, desire, and focused effort. It is not easy. While some degree of stress can be motivationg for change, a high degree of stress can prevent an individual from moving forward. It is critical to develop mental discipline and get the mind into a calm, relaxed state.
This is accomplished by use of many tools including guided imagery or other relaxation exercises. Small goals must be established first in order to accomplish larger goals. Use of the acronymn "RARE" can be helpful as a direction to follow so that you can become the "RARE" individual you were designed to be.
R=Relax-Clear your mind and get into a
relaxed state.
A=Aware-Be aware of your environment,
others and yourself with specific focus
on anything that is good or positive.
R=Relate-Relate what you become aware
of to how you are feeling emotionally and
how your awareness can help manifest your
vision..
E=Equate-Equate these feelings to a type of
motivational success by identifying the
necessary needed steps to create your
desired change, including the addition of
people who will support your plan, and
take an active step of some sort every day.
Use the positive feelings to visualize every step that you take toward change and name each step a success.
If you are in need of counseling or desire personal growth, please feel free to contact me. I will be glad to answer any questions that you have about my services.
